Blog Stage 8

In response to http://blacknwhitegovtx.blogspot.com/

I agree what you said about the immigration bill still being processed. For your question about how can people pay their penalty if they have earned a little. I think, as there are 11 million illegal immigrants, the answer is ironic because there should be a loophole where only some people could get the citizenship.

Concerns About Health Care Law Rollout

We know about the Health care reform which was passed three years ago. Some people supported the law as it makes it easier to get and keep the health insurance and some did not agree because, they were concerned about the financial conditions. Even though it helped a lot of people, there were news that there are concerns about the health care reform. Companies who has more 30 full time employees are planning to lessen the number employees, as they could not pay for them. Many other small businesses are experiencing financial issues because of health care reform. The article, "Democratic Senators Tell White House of Concerns About Health Care Law Rollout" written by Robert Pear published on 25th April 2013 on New York Times reports the Denis R. McDonough, President Obama’s new chief of staff’s question on the concerns of the health care law with other Democratic senators. The article states the views of different senators being cautious about the health care law. As there are issues that need to be fixed regarding the health care law, the Obama Administration worked on making the law “optional” for the workers which is known to be health care premium.
Jeffrey Young in Huffington post reported that the CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield submitted a proposal to Maryland regulators on Wednesday that would take effect in 2014 for people who buy their own health insurance, rather than obtain it from their jobs.  Robert Pear in the article, "Democratic Senators Tell White House of Concerns about Health Care Law Rollout" said that the company said the higher premiums reflected costs of complying with the new law. However, the health care is optional for the workers, I think it will still benefit the people who need health insurance.

Will Guns Help Society

The article named, "Will guns help society" published by Kiara Woods describes about controlling guns. It also talks about a recent event that tool place in Florida, and the writer described about the possible effects of making guns available for the people. I agree to the article because, people carrying guns would lead to more killing in America. There was another event that happened in Houston Community  College on Tuesday, reported on "U.S.News on NBCNEWS.com" that three people were wounded when gunfire erupted. Even though, owning guns might be a self defensive tool, but I believe that it is more destructive for people who owns the gun and people around them.

  IMMIGRATION
In recent days, there were some specific social issues around the nation, which people could not stop hearing in the news. After these series of social issues, such as gun control and gay marriage has put to an end. The issue of immigration pops up. Should or not provide the citizenship for the 11 million illegal immigrants. Generally I think, its impossible to filter the illegal immigrants and ask them to pack up and leave the nation, so providing the citizenship is better idea
Some people think providing a path for the illegal immigrants might affect the political structure of the country and the other think that it would not matter politically, but it would benefit the country economically. In an article of New York Times, named New Attitude on Immigration Skips an Old Coal Town, published by Trip Gabriel says that "Illegal is illegal. Chase them all out. They don’t belong here". In the same article, Mayor Joseph Yannuzzi said that "They are attracted by jobs at warehouses and at a meatpacking plant, by good schools and cheap housing". Another article named The Immigration Spring by The Editorial Board says that "Any bill should give the 11 million unauthorized immigrants a shot at citizenship within a reasonable time — a decade or less". I completely agree with this statement, because it may help people to know the pros and cons within that period of time and may reflect to a much more effective decision later.
Another article named The forces who would undermine immigration reform posted by Jennifer Rubin on Washington Post states that "Some are purely pandering to what they perceive as the wants of the right-wing base, although there is plenty of evidence that they’ve misjudged voters. Some immigration advocates are defeatists on the political front and think in 12 or 14 years, once the pathway leads to citizenship, all these immigrants will vote Democratic". In my opinion, I think what Jennifer Rubin says above is not relatively true because not all immigrants who got citizenship might vote Democratic. In reality, as we know the fact that business people leans towards Republican. There are possibilities for some immigrants who got citizenship will support Republican for the sake of business.
An article called The Economic Effects of Granting Legal Status and Citizenship to Undocumented Immigrants published by Robert Lynch and Patrick Oakford states that, "legal status and citizenship enable undocumented immigrants to produce and earn significantly more than they do when they are on the economic sidelines. The resulting productivity and wage gains ripple through the economy because immigrants are not just workers—they are also consumers and taxpayers".
Therefore, I think that providing the path of citizenship for illegal immigrants is a better idea and benefits the country economically.

Gun Control In The City of Georgia
The editorial, “City In GeorgiaWould Mandate That Everyone Own A Gun” was published by Rebecca Leber on Mar 6, 2013. The editorial illustrates that the city of Georgia is considering a proposal that “requires every homeowner to own a gun”.  The author in the editorial claims that: why gun should be mandatory? What can be the cause and effect?

The author includes a statement of Nelson City Councilman Duane Cronic saying that “armed residents would deter crime instead”, he also says that it will save time if something happen (crime) in their residence, the person can use the gun to defend themselves instead of waiting for the cops or calling 911. The author also includes the results of surveys and research about owning a gun which shows that methodologically supports the ownership of gun and academically, it says that gun ownership will increase the rates of crimes.
Considering, the evidence in the editorial, I think the argument posed about to not allowing everyone to own gun will work and it is logic. The point is that the city of Georgia is considering a proposal about owning a gun. For example, if the city allows everyone to use a gun, it is to defend themselves from a threat or crime. But, how many of them will only use the gun to defend themselves? It is possible for some person to be unwise which can lead to number of deaths. Therefore, In my opinion, I think that the academic result is valid as their surveys and research proves that more people die from gun homicides in areas with higher rates of gun ownership.

An article titled "Reproductive Rights in New York" was published on February 19, 2013. The article describes about Gov. Andrew Cuomo idea of reestablishment of women's equality rights in New York as Cuomo Bill. Gov. Cuomo argues to preserve the federal protections concerning abortions in New York as the complications in women's health arises later during pregnancy. He also argues to make the life of pregnant workers easier.
Nathaniel Brooks for The New York Times
Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo is seeking to
deliver on a promise he made on women's
rights in his recent State of the State address.
As the article is mostly focused on woman in New York, Some woman might have went through situation as Gov. Andrew Cuomo mentions, "Although New York’s law cannot be enforced because it is superseded by federal law, as a practical matter, some New York doctors fear prosecution and, as a result, some women are forced to leave the state to get the care they need". Gov. Cuomo portrays the reality as most women have issue during late pregnancy around seven months or later. As the abortion after 24 weeks is banned, this might put both woman's life as well as the fetus's life in a complicated situation. It might result in a disability in the child or even the death of the woman or the baby. The author of this article says that “According to a report in The Times on Sunday, the Cuomo bill would shift the state’s abortion law from the criminal code to the health care laws where it belongs.” The author says that updating the abortion law will also provide new protections for pregnant workers.
I think it is a good idea to shift the states abortion law from the criminal code to the health care laws. Therefore, I absolutely agree with this idea of limiting the abortion laws as it can help late-term abortions if the woman's life is at risk. It will make it easier for the doctors who face these kinds of cases.

Immigration advocates push Republicans to support path to citizenship

The article, “Immigration advocates push Republicans to support path to citizenship” was published on Thursday, February 07, 2013 6:53 PM by David Nakamura and Rosalind S. Helderman on The Washington Post. The writers of the article argue about the ongoing debate in the Republican Party whether to provide citizenship for 11 million illegal immigrants.

The article illustrates about the participation of the people of the nation towards approving the immigration reforms. Like, lobbying campaign includes Hispanic, Asian and African American groups’ and rallies in dozen cities. The article also provides opinions of various representatives and head of organizations across the state. Some of the people in power agree to grant legal status for undocumented residents. They say, “Our focus is citizenship, getting people to have the same rights as anybody else”. But, most of them disagree to legalize them or give the full rights like voting.

I thought this article was interesting and wanting to know more about it because nowadays we hear about immigration in the radio, TV, and Internet. It is also worth reading as it announces about further discussions about immigration reforms.
